Kosovo or Kosovo1 (in Albanian: Kosova or Kosovë, in Serbian: Косово or Косово and Метохија, Kosovo or Kosovo and Metohija) is a disputed territory located in the Balkan peninsula, in southeastern Europe. It has an area of ​​10,887 km² and is inhabited by about 1.8 million people. Its capital is Pristina. It borders Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia and the Central Serbia region, and is made up of the historic regions of Kosovo and Metohija.5

The status of Kosovo is controversial. The government of Kosovo, in whose territory ethnic Albanians have numerical predominance, unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008 with the support of the United States and most of the countries that make up the European Union, establishing the Republic of Kosovo . For its part, Serbia still considers Kosovo an autonomous province within its own territory, in accordance with its own constitution and Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council, although it no longer intervenes in the administration of the territory. since 1999, since, at the end of the Kosovo War, his administration was left to NATO and the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo by mandate of the aforementioned Security Council.
