Guatemala (in Nahuatl: Quauhtlemallan, 'place of many trees')? 5 -officially, Republic of Guatemala- is a sovereign State in Central America, at its northwestern tip, with a wide native culture product of the Mayan heritage and Castilian influence during the colonial era.

In spite of its relatively small territorial extension, Guatemala has a great climatic variety, product of its mountainous relief that goes from the level of the sea to the 4220 meters on that level.7 This propitiates that in the country exist ecosystems so varied that they go from the mangroves of the Pacific wetlands to the cloud forests of high mountains.

 

It borders to the west and north with Mexico, to the east with Belize, the Gulf of Honduras (Caribbean Sea) and the Republic of Honduras, to the southeast with El Salvador, and to the south with the Pacific Ocean.
