Ghana, officially 11 the Republic of Ghana (English: Republic of Ghana), 3 12 is a West African country constituted as a semi-presidential republic. It is bordered on the north by Burkina Faso, on the east by Togo, on the west by the Ivory Coast and on the south by the Gulf of Guinea. Currently, the country is one of the most powerful democracies in the continent, highlighting the important role it plays in the most important organization in the area: the African Union (AU). The government is headed by John Dramani Mahama who took over after the death of John Evans Atta Mills who managed to form a government in which many women held important positions.
