Colombia is an American country located in the northwestern zone of South America, organized

constitutionally as a decentralized unitary republic. Its capital is Bogotá and Limita to the east with

Venezuela and Brazil, to the south with Peru and Ecuador and to the northwest with Panama; in terms of maritime limits, it borders Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea, and with Panama, Costa Rica and Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean.

Colombia is the only South American nation that has coasts in the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, in which it has several islands such as the archipelago of San Andrés and Providencia.

The country is the fourth nation in territorial extension of South America and, with around 46 million inhabitants, the third in population in Latin America, after Brazil and Mexico.

Colombia is recognized worldwide for the production of soft coffee, flowers, emeralds, coal and oil, its cultural diversity and for being the second of the richest countries in biodiversity in the world.

​

It is one of the main economic centers of Spanish-speaking America (the fourth), and in 2009 the 27th economy worldwide.
